A Gift from the Community
Edith, a resident of a Kauaʻi nursing home, wanted to create something special for someone she may never meet.
With her permission, we captured this short video as she painted a beautiful 6 × 6 canvas for a Brighten A Heart™ Comfort Care Tote. At Edith’s request, we honored her privacy by filming only her artwork and hands as she created.
She hoped her video would inspire others to discover how a simple act of kindness can brighten someone’s day.
Brighten A Heart™ continues to build relationships with nursing homes throughout Kauaʻi and explore opportunities for residents to participate in creative activities that offer comfort, encouragement, and human connection to people receiving care in our community.
Every canvas tells a story. Every brushstroke is a reminder that someone cares.

100 Canvases, One Generous Gift
A Kauaʻi artist surprised Brighten A Heart™ with an incredibly generous gift. Inspired by our mission, she created and donated 100 original 6 × 6 canvases for Brighten A Heart™ Comfort Care Totes.
She asked to remain anonymous, choosing instead to let the kindness behind her artwork speak for itself.
Each canvas was created by hand and will become part of a Comfort Care Tote for someone receiving care, a small piece of original art from someone in the community who simply wanted to bring a little kindness into another person’s day.
Her generosity reflects what Brighten A Heart™ hopes to inspire within the communities we serve: people using their talents, time, and hearts to care for others.
We are deeply grateful for this extraordinary gift and the heart behind it.

More Kindness Across Hawaiʻi
Brighten A Heart™ is preparing several community initiatives across Kauaʻi and Honolulu.
Upcoming activities include community art, books and creative activities, Comfort Care Tote distributions, and continued relationship building with healthcare and community organizations.
As each project is completed, we will share the people, organizations, and moments of kindness that helped make it possible here in our Hawaiʻi Community Highlights.
We look forward to sharing what comes next.
I like this better because it removes “literacy focused”, avoids the hyphen, and does not call anyone a partner before that relationship has actually been established.
For Kapiʻolani, I would not name them in this upcoming section yet. After you deliver the books and receive permission, we can give Kapiʻolani its own dated Community Highlight. That will be much stronger than burying it inside a general coming soon paragraph.
